Matthias Stegmann

Born in Münster, West Germany, he began playing the guitar at the age of twelve. At the age of seventeen he had his first concert appearance in Münster. In 1986, after several years of study at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree, he and his family immigrated to the United States where he taught guitar at Marshall University in Huntington/WV and the University of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande/OH.

Mr. Stegmann also pursued graduate studies in Music History and Theory at Ohio University and earned a
Master's degree in classical guitar performance from the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. During his studies in Cincinnati he had the opportunity to perform in masterclasses with Oscar Ghiglia, David Russell, David Tanenbaum, Adam Holzman, and Scott Tennant.
In 1994 Mr. Stegmann joined the faculty at Goshen College in Goshen, IN, teaching classical guitar. Since
the inauguration of the Music Center at Goshen College in the fall of 2002, he also acts as supervisor for all audio recording activities. In July 2008, a video production of the 2007 O Wondrous Mystery event for which Mr. Stegmann produced the audio portion, was nominated for an Emmy in the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Lower Great Lakes Chapter.
Since the fall semester of 2010 Mr. Stegmann serves on the faculty at Indiana University South Bend as adjunct instructor for audio technology, guitar and guitar ensemble.
