Composing and handing in assignments on Moodle

For shorter assignments, I will frequently ask you to write up responses, or write a short essay and then hand it in on Moodle. You have options:

Composing

  1. You may write with pen and paper. If you need to include any sort of quick sketch or diagram, or connect ideas visually with arrows, or otherwise organize items visually in relation to other items this is the easiest way to compose.

Some people just enjoy writing with paper and pen more than a keyboard.

  2. Or, you may write a response on a computer. Open a Word file, or a Google Doc file. If you'll need to paste what you've written into an e-mail, or edit it later; If, like me, your handwriting is hard for others to read; If you want to use a spell checker or grammar checker on what you've written, then this is the easiest way to compose.

Some people just enjoy using a keyboard more, or can write faster that way.

Either way, you can hand in your work on Moodle:

You'll need to snap pictures of what you've written to upload it to Moodle:

  1. Open moodle.goshen.edu on your iPad, and navigate your way to our class site, and to the link for the assignment you wish to hand in.
  2. Scroll down to where it says "File submissions".
  3. Click on either the little file "+" icon, or anywhere in the "You can drag and drop..." area

  4. On the next screen that comes up, click once on "Choose File", then click once on "Take Photo or Video".

  5. Take a picture of the portion of your paper with what you've written. Ask yourself: Could someone else read this? If the answer is yes, choose "Use this picture". After you return to the Upload a File screen, choose "Upload this file".
  6. You'll see a thumbnail square-ish image of your snapshot. Click on "Save Changes".

Handing in your work: Computer file

There are two ways that you can upload something that you've typed up with a computer keyboard. Use whichever way you find most convenient.

  • If you composed something in Google Docs, it may be that the easiest way to upload it is to 1.) Select your text and copy it, 2.) Make your way to your assignment on Moodle, find the Online text box, and paste your text in there.
  • Alternatively, You can create a file and upload that file: 1.) Save a copy of your Word file, 2.) In your web browser, navigate to your assignment in Moodle, 3.) Go to the File submission part of the screen, and upload the file you just saved.
