I made this raku fired guinea hen by wrapping soft textured clay on
a newspaper core. A simple clear glaze was brushed over the tops of the
texture bumps. The raku smoking blackened the unglazed areas. The teather
is made of leather.
When I was a child, my grandparents had about two dozen guinea fowl
on their farm. They made lots of noise and scurried to the roof of the
chicken house whenever we drove on their yard. Some thought they made good
'watch dogs'. I also enjoyed seeing flocks of guinea fowl in a game park
we visited in Zimbabwe.
